At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care. Our gastroenterology nursing team work in a fast paced, highly acute clinical service which delivers care to patients with a range of gastrointestinal disorders.

To support and develop our nursing team and to further enhance the care our patients receive we are looking to recruit a Practice Educator to work with the Matron and Senior Ward Sisters to develop teaching packages, support new staff, ensure timely completion of mandatory training and maintenance of training records. You will work in close liaison with other professionals including the medical, specialist nursing team, pharmacists and therapists to develop training to meet service needs. You will support ward teams in embedding developments identified through the Nursing Assessment and Performance Framework process.

The ideal candidate will have considerable experience at Band 6 level within a gastroenterology or related clinical field. You will have excellent teaching skills and a personal thirst for knowledge which you will share with team members in a structured way. You will have extremely high professional standards and be a role model to all those you work with.

You will be a highly self -motivated and organised with the ability to use word, excel and power-point tools to support your role. You will be required to maintain accurate training logs and to work with ward sisters to identify how and when training needs can be met to ensure that the workforce is equipped to meet the needs of a dynamic clinical service.

As this position is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and involves work that is identified as a regulated activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.
The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £4800, which includes a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied. Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.
