Job Summary

We have a new opportunity for a Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team in Outpatients at Devizes NHS Treatment Centre.

We offer day treatments across the following areas:

dental surgery, ear, nose and throat procedures, endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, joint replacements (outpatient assessment only), minor orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, and urology. In addition we provide diagnostic services, using the latest MRI, ultrasound and CT scan technology, arranged with local providers.

Key Responsibilities

As a Pre-Assessment Nurse you will be expected to assist in the efficient running of the outpatient and perioperative service and co-ordinate the patient’s hospital admission from pre-admission to discharge.

This will include organising and undertaking pre-admission screening of selected patients ensuring they are fit for surgery on the date allocated. You will also ensure that all patients are fully informed of their proposed treatment plans and all questions are answered. In addition you will take appropriate action for those patients who do not meet the inclusion criteria, managing appropriate referral onto other Consultants, or back to General Practitioners, for further assessment and treatment where indicated.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Extensive relevant experience in acute care or elective surgical nursing with recent experience in undertaking pre-assessments
• Experience in day care/ short stay and inpatient nursing
• Knowledge and skills of acute surgical care provision
• Up to date hands on clinical skills including phlebotomy, IV drug administration and performing ECGs


• NMC Registered Nurse
• Teaching qualification/ ENB 998 or equivalent
• Basic / Intermediate life support skills
• ECG and Venupuncture training

Please note that this is a part time role working 17 hours per week.
