Pre-Treatment Radiographer

Job Description

This post is based at Maidstone Hospital for 27 hours per week on a 12 month Fixed term contract (Maternity leave cover)

We require a suitably experienced Radiographer with a specialist interest in the Pre-Treatment area to join our dedicated team in Medical Physics. This is a fixed term post to cover 12 months maternity leave and the appointed candidate will only be expected to work within the CT scanner and to assist in the Mould Room.

Our Pre-Treatment team works closely with Medical Physicists, Treatment Radiographers, Oncologists and Technicians to produce complex plans for the treatment area. The Oncology centre comprises of 2 sites - one at Maidstone and the other at Canterbury. This job will be based at Maidstone but we are working closely with Canterbury to standardise our working practices.

The department is above ground, is light, airy and spacious with a courtyard garden. The state of the art facilities include a dedicated Siemens Sensation Open CT scanner and a Siemens Definition CT scanner shared with the diagnostic department which has 4DCT capabilities.

MRI fusion and IV Contrast are in routine use as part of the radiotherapy planning process.

We have Prosoma for palliative treatments and virtual simulation of breast treatments. Part of this service is Radiographer Led by Band 7 Radiographers.

We have a Pinnacle 3D planning system. RapidArc with Eclipse TPS is used for a range of IMRT including prostate, oesophagus, primary brain, head and neck and anus planning.

Data is transferred between the planning systems and linacs using Varian’s ARIA “Record and verify” system. The centre has its own in-house management system for patient scheduling which is interfaced with ARIA. At present we have 6 Varian Linear Accelerators on the Maidstone site. Three of these are Rapidarc enabled OBI machines. We have HDR brachytherapy and Iodine seed implants for prostate and gynaecology brachytherapy.

There is a children’s nursery on the Maidstone site and staff car parking facilities.
