Rhodes Wood Hospital is a specialist treatment centre for children and young people aged 8-18 years who are diagnosed with an eating disorder and require inpatient care. Whilst our service has been operational for nearly 25 years, the recent relocation to Hatfield, heralds a new era in the service, with improved facilities and greater capacity being primary drivers for the move.

We offer young people and their families a treatment approach that is focused on re-establishing normal life. Our skilled team of psychiatrists, therapists, nursing and dietetic staff offer support to re-establish eating patterns, develop coping skills to manage symptoms of the disorder, restore physical health and develop a positive outlook for the future.

Our Registered Mental Nurse role involves:

  • Providing a high standard of care to people with mental illness and personality disorder
  • Developing therapeutic relationships to optimise patient engagement
  • Following all codes of conduct, standards and legislation, respecting the rights of others and promoting ethical practice
  • Contributing to patient assessments, compiling a plan of care alongside the individual, and monitoring patient progress
  • At a more senior level, you’ll also need to lead shifts as well as mentoring and supporting student nurses and other members of the team

Job Requirements

To be successful as a Registered Mental Nurse / Registered Nurse Learning Difficulties / Registered General Nurse, you’ll need:


  • NMC Registered RMN/RNLD/RGN
  • Evidence of personal and professional development

Skills and Experience

  • An understanding of care planning processes and experience of writing care plans
  • Experience of working with service users with various mental health needs
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • The ability to contribute to, monitor and implement changes that improvement service delivery and outcomes for residents
