We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Inpatient Team.

The Exeter Additional Support Unit is a 5 bedded Learning Disability Inpatient Unit within Devon Partnership NHS Trust. The Service provides assessment and treatment to individuals with learning disability who have mental health problems. Working within a Recovery Model, the multi-disciplinary team are focused on providing high quality, safe, effective and person centred care.

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses to join the team as a Band 5 Assistant Team Leader

The Registered Nurse will assess health & wellbeing needs and develop, monitor and review care plans, enable people to address specific needs in relation to health & wellbeing, plan, deliver and evaluate care to meet people’s health & wellbeing needs, and plan, deliver and evaluate interventions and/or treatment.

In addition the Registered Nurse will also be responsible for the management of the inpatient unit, nursing, administrative and ancillary staff over a span of duty, assisting in the management and clinical supervision of the nurse team, and manage the unit in the absence of the Unit Manager.

Working with our Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and other Registered Nurses, the successful applicant will be supported to be an effective and successful member of the multi-disciplinary team.

The post requires successful applicants to be able to participate in the 24 hour flexible rota to provide day, evening and night cover as required.

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse and have a current NMC RN-LD or RN-M registration.

The post holder will be enthusiastic and have some experience of working with people who have a learning disability, mental health problems and may exhibit a high level of distress. You will be able to provide evidence of working well within a team and using your initiative. You will have good communication skills and be competent in liaising with other professionals and agencies, overcoming barriers to communication and achieving positive outcomes. You will have an understanding and working knowledge of the mental health act and the mental capacity act. You will be competent with IT systems and using electronic records. You will need to have a flexible approach and willing to work in a busy and demanding unit.

Preceptorship will be provided for newly qualified nurses.

We particularly encourage applicants with lived experiences of mental health issues.

As a new member of staff to Devon Partnership Trust you will be required to attend a full induction Programme at the beginning of your employment. The content and length of this programme will depend on your new job role and where you will be working. This can be between 1 day for non clinical staff and up to 10 days for inpatient clinical staff.
