Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for
Interventional radiology provides an essential service in the diagnosis and treatment of a vast variety of patients from a wide range of specialties. Our service promotes a dedicated, highly trained and motivated team that enables these vital life prolonging or saving procedures to be done whenever our patients need them. The rewarding feeling can only be realized by being part of it.
Our nurses are pivotal to the provision of these services. Their role within the imaging department varies from day to day. From scrubbing and assisting the radiologists directly during cases, supporting patients and their needs before, during and after the procedures in our newly built day- case unit, and managing the day to day running of the expanding interventional radiology department.
We work closely with large multidisciplinary teams from across the hospital within our purpose built department and in theatre dependent on the nature of the intervention. Techniques in patient’s treatments are constantly evolving, and so your ability to embrace and support this is essential.
Plans are in progress to install a new hybrid theatre suite to accommodate our expanding services, and provide the best facilities for our staff to treat our patients.
You may have already had such experience from this background, or be looking for a new challenge to expand your skills in a new and exciting area. Irrespective of your past, the skills you already possess as a dedicated and motivated NMC Registered Nurse who is keen to learn and thrives as part of a team will enable your seamless induction into ours. We have a full competency training package for staff and once competent to be able to proficiently support the on call service a retention bonus is paid.
We will furnish you with the specific skills you need to flourish in your new role that provides vascular, urological, and gastrointestinal interventional procedures in our department’s role as a centralized service to smaller satellite hospitals. This is currently a day time service, working 75 hour or four, 9 hour shifts/week on rotation. In addition, nurses provide an on-call service. This commits you to working, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, it will build on your ability to lone work as a specialist alongside your new medical and radiographic colleagues.
We are committed to developing our staff and your knowledge. There are opportunities to attend local and national training courses and meetings. We are proud to be directly involved in the training of radiologists and surgeons from around the world in aortic stent graft systems in bi-annual workshops.
You will take an active part to develop our non-nursing colleagues and ensure best practice in your areas of expertise. Alongside this we regularly accept nursing, radiography and medical students into the interventional radiology department as part of their training.
