Research Nurse Band 5/6 (depending on experience)
Band 5 £21,909 to £28,462 per annum
Band 6 £26,302 to £35,225 per annum

Contract: 21 months from date of appointment

(Please note you may be required to work at any site or within any Directorate/Department within the Trust if necessary to meet service needs)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Research Nurse to join the cancer research phase one team based in the Sir Bobby Robson Unit, Freeman

The Nurse will participate in the creation and maintenance of a high quality clinical research environment. The post holders will initiate and manage nursing activities related to academic studies and clinical trials, from initiation to termination, according to ICH good clinical practice guidelines.

Band 5 Applicants:
Essential Requirements
• Registered General Nurse (Clinical).
• Experience post registration at Band 5
• Background awareness with speciality
• Working towards competence in standard PC packages (Word, Excel).
• Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Relevant clinical skills
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Motivated and enthusiastic.
• Interest in research
• Ability to fulfil all aspects of the role

Desirable requirements
• Possesses an understanding of the research process and the application of research in the clinical governance agenda.
• Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills with the research aspects of the job.
• Able to assist/supervise students and healthcare assistants under the overall supervision of the senior research nurse.
• Experience working within speciality
• Evidence of role expansion that can be applied to the role

Band 6 Applicants

Essential Requirements
• Registered General Nurse (Clinical).
• Substantial experience at Band 5 or above.
• Background awareness of speciality
• Post graduate diploma in a health/biological sciences related area or equivalent in level experience.
• Education / training qualification / certificate
• Awareness of research governance issues.
• Competence in standard PC packages (Word, Excel).
• Advanced interpersonal and communication skills.
• Advanced clinical skills.
• An understanding of the application of research in the clinical governance agenda.
• An understanding of the research process.
• Evidence of research activity and ability to demonstrate research competency.
• Ability to plan and lead on one or more research studies.
• High level of organisation and time management skills.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Motivated and enthusiastic.
• Ability to fulfil all aspects of the role.

Desirable requirements
• Experience related to information retrieval and research application.
• Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills with the research aspects of the job.
• Experience of working within speciality.
• Evidence of role expansion that can be applied to the role.
• Experience of mentoring junior staff.
