At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care. We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 7,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.
The Research and Development Department works closely with Trust based clinicians and external researchers and organisations to undertake high quality clinical and health services research. This gives the local population of East Lancashire the opportunity to take part in research studies associated with their clinical conditions or the care and services they receive. This is a small department but working with many different clinical areas and departments across the Trust that has grown its research activity over the last few years across many clinical areas and specialities.
This is a unique opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join a well-established team of research nurses and midwives, dedicated to the care and treatment offered to a range of patients across East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is offered initially on a temporary basis for 2 years.
You will be working as part of a small team of research nurses, responsible for identifying, recruiting and supporting patients and undertaking nursing care activities/ interventions within clinical trials and other well designed studies at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is full-time and will be part of either the generic research team supporting research amongst different clinical fields that may involve, cardiology, dermatology, surgery and anaesthetics to name a few or within the cancer research team. Some flexibility concerning working across different teams is required at times due to workload/ study demands. Most of the research activity is undertaken Monday to Friday but some weekend work may be required on a planned basis. Clinic / research activity times may also vary from day to day but again with prior knowledge such as a late finish clinic after 5pm or an early morning theatre list such as 730am. These times are all study dependent so some flexibility would be required across the team to fulfil the needs of the service.
You will be responsible for ensuring that clinical trials and research studies are undertaken to ICH-GCP and regulatory standards.
You will be a registered nurse with current NMC registration, with proven relevant experience post-registration in appropriate clinical settings. An understanding of the clinical research process would be an advantage but if not this post will initially be offered at Band 5 to allow training and development to be undertaken to then progress to a band 6 role or if relevant past clinical research skills can be demonstrated this post will be offered at Band 6. You will need to be able to work independently but will be under the supervision of the Senior Research Nurse/ Team Leader and specialist training will be provided for research specific procedures.
