Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) and Birmingham Women’s Hospital (BWH) have a tremendous sense of shared mission and purpose, and have enjoyed a close working relationship for decades – particularly at the clinical level. Both trusts are currently working towards becoming a single organisation and the earliest this would take place is early 2017, subject to NHS Improvement approval. The proposed integration would mean that BWH staff will be subject to TUPE.

BCH is a teaching hospital and as such you may come into contact with students of many disciplines. Staff must comply with Trust policy and respective regulatory body requirements in relation to training and updating and fulfill duties of mentorship and assessment as required.



Band 4, Assistant Audiologists 375 hours – full time, 5 days per week.

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Assistant Audiologist has arisen within the Audiology Department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person for this role. Experience working as an Assistant Audiologist in an Audiology Department is essential, as is the ability to relate well and work with babies and young children. The post-holder will assist the Audiologists in both the assessment and rehabilitation of children with hearing difficulties, check hearing aids electroacoustically, perform basic hearing aid repairs, and assist in day to day administrative duties. A thorough understanding of patient management systems such as Auditbase would be an advantage. The Audiology Department supports busy ENT clinics and is a regional centre for cleft lip and palate services.


5 GCSE’s grades A-C (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics

Experience working as an Assistant Audiologist in an Audiology Department

Foundation Degree in Audiology desirable
Excellent communication skills
Good organisational and interpersonal skills
Good IT skills


The Audiology Department is a well established modernised service providing Assessment and Rehabilitation of hearing problems in children and boasts good facilities which are well equipped. Services include Diagnostic centre for Newborn Hearing Screening, Hearing assessments and habilitation.
