We are looking for a Senior Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health Day Unit at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in Hammersmith, London.
The post holder will work as part of the nursing team, utilising their clinical expertise, decision making and problem solving skills to provide skilled and evidence based nursing care for patients in a prison setting. Working within their scope of practice, in accordance with Care UK and prison service policies and procedures and in line with the NMC Code of professional conduct: standards for conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives.
The post holder will be responsible for the continuing management of patients and acute and long term medical conditions, including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, health promotion activity and care of vulnerable offenders. The post holder will work collaboratively General Practitioners and other specialist clinicians to meet the needs of our patients and work closely with the healthcare manager to facilitate patient focused, innovative, evidence based practice, in line with Care UK objectives.

You will be a qualified RMN with current NMC registration. You'll have proven post registration nursing experience, ideally within either an acute health service, a mental health hospital or forensic, custodial or secure setting.
You will also have experience with teaching and educating skills and facilitating the learning of others as well as experience of managing change in both processes and patient behaviour.

At HMP Wormwood Scrubs there is a large healthcare centre which has 20 inpatient mental heath beds, 2 GP inpatient beds and a day care facility for patients with mental health problems, providing holistic therapies. In the Healthcare Day Unit, we provide Consultant led clinics, podiatry, dentistry and imaging. There are also a number of consulting rooms both across the main prison.
On each of the wings there is a primary care facility incorporating a GP's clinic and area for dispensing of medication.
This is a full time role working 375 hours a week. The salary range is £31,000 - £33,000 per annum (dependent on experience).
