You will provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for a department based team of registered Critical care Nurses.
London North West NHS Trust is one of the busiest acute organisations in the country with a full range of acute and elective activity, including tertiary referral work in Intestinal Failure and Head & Neck surgery. After a recent review we have been given the approval in the interim to open an additional Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit which will encompass the provision of 8 level 2 and 5 level 3 beds. This will be followed by a brand new state of the art Intensive Care Unit which is due for completion in the near future.
Our new 13 bedded unit, based at Northwick Park Hospital, offers excellent opportunities to gain a broad range of experience in caring for critically ill patients including;
- Treatment for multi-organ failure
- Complex surgical cases including ENT
- Post-operative complex vascular surgery
- Post operative complex colorectal surgery
- Maxillofacial Surgery
- Patients with underlying renal disease
- Patients with underlying haematology/oncology disease
- Patients with Infection diseases
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will contribute to the on-going implementation of key quality and clinical performance indicators to ensure care delivered in ITU is underpinned by Critical care quality indicators.
The Team leader will provide clinical and management support to nursing staff within ITU cross-site, to ensure that nursing care and resources are managed effectively.
To operate within a team of Band 7 nurses who collectively provide a resource of Critical Care Nursing excellence & skill and ensuring nursing care is delivered to a high standard.
The Team Leader when on shift will provide operational management of the ITU.
To act as an effective leader both professionally and managerially to the nursing staff on Critical Care, in conjunction with the Lead Nurse/Matron and the other Band 7 nurses
To participate in the setting of clinical guidelines / standards of care for the Critical Care and assist in the use of evidence based practices towards the maintenance of these.
Actively contribute to the clinical governance agenda and the education and development of all grades of staff.
