Main responsibilities:

Within this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the care of mainly surgical patients on a busy ward. The wide range of clinical procedures provided by Spire Manchester Hospital means that you will be exposed to a diverse range of nursing specialisms such as: orthopaedic, paediatric and bariatric surgery. Your role will include managing a group of patients providing clinical skills including communicating with the patient, assessing their immediate and future care needs and aiding their recovery. This might include care of their surgical site, medicine management and fluid balance.

As a team leader Senior Staff Nurse, you will be responsible for managing and co coordinating the shift in the absence of the Ward Sister. In these instances, you will be required to carry the cardiac arrest bleep for the hospital (ALS training will be provided if required).You will also support the Ward Sister and Ward Manager with the development of more junior colleagues.

Working hours: This is a full time position, 375 hours per week. The post entails working on a rotation basis covering both day and night shifts.

Location: Spire Manchester Hospital, Whalley Range. The Hospital is close to Manchester City Centre, and there is parking available

Who we are looking for

Qualifications & Training:

We are looking for qualified Registered Nurses. ALS and mentorship qualifications would also be desirable, however training can be provided if necessary.


We are looking for a confident Registered Nurse with demonstrable experience of running a ward in the absence of more senior staff as well as experience of mentoring students and more junior colleagues.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in teams and working with minimum supervision. Previous surgical experience is essential and ideally you will have experience of applying clinical reasoning skills to a range of complex and varied patient case mixes.

Knowledge and Technical Ability:

You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of delivering high quality care and what it takes to make a difference to the patients admitted under your care, as well as having an interest in current evidence based practice and a desire to make a difference.

You will be competent across a range of nursing skills supported by professional and clinical knowledge and you will possess the mandatory training requirements for the role including infection control and health and safety competencies. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate the principles of accountable practice and have evidence of pursuing your continued professional development.
