Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse

The Abdominal Medicine and Surgery CSU (AMS) is looking to recruit a Band Junior Sister/Charge Nurse post to ward J43 at St James’s Hospital. We need an enthusiastic individual who has a passion for the delivery of high quality, patient focused care. You will support the Band 7 and colleagues to provide expert, holistic care of high standards to both the patients and their relatives.

Applications are invited for this full time substantive post which will be based on ward J43 (but can include internal rotation to other areas of the CSU as the service requires). There is also an expectation that the successful applicant will participate in a senior cover rota within AMS which could include weekends and nights.

Candidates will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience at Band 5 level .A commitment to personal professional development as well as that of team members and the service is required. We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate your passion and commitment to the provision of high quality patient centered care. You will be able to demonstrate proven leadership skills and a drive for achieving and sustaining high clinical standards. You need to be a registered nurse with a recognized teaching and assessing qualification or currently be on a course.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at this progressively expanding Elective Surgery Department. Ward J43 is an extremely busy surgical unit which specializes in upper and lower GI surgery, urology surgery, and various other general surgical procedures

You will be required:

To take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Senior Sister/ Senior Charge Nurse.

To lead and develop an identified team of nurses within the Elective Surgery Unit

To act as a clinical resource within the Department

To act as a positive role model

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate recent change management and implementation, a clear understanding of Leeds Teaching Hospitals key aims and objectives and a sound understanding of workforce management.

If you are successful in being offered a position which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The level of check required is dependent upon the position that you have applied for. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment and will need to be renewed annually. For Band 1 roles the Trust will pay the cost of the DBS checks and refund to you the cost of the update service. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
