University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust Neonatal Unit has become the first in the country to gain official BLISS Baby Charter accreditation for our family-centred care for sick and premature babies. UHS provides intensive, high and special care to babies and families from across the South coast and Channel Islands in the hospital, as a transport service and at home. This tertiary centre supports over 6000 deliveries per annum and is host to the high risk obstetric and fetal medicine services. It provides the full range of medical and surgical intensive care and directly supports the care of newborn infants with complex conditions referred to all paediatric sub-specialities.
We know that evidence indicates that the chances of survival for extremely sick and preterm babies are related to the number of staff and their level of specialist education and experience. Babies receiving intensive care have complex needs which can only be met by skilled, knowledgeable and proficient nurses with the time to dedicate to the infant and family. This is why we continue to expand our Band 6 nursing workforce to achieve the BAPM standards that our families deserve.
We want you to be self-motivated, capable, caring and dynamic. You will be a registered nurse or midwife with a post-registration qualification in neonatal nursing. You should also have a teaching or mentorship qualification. It goes without saying that you will have a proven track record of clinical excellence, be able to prioritise your workload and show your leadership skills.
