Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Clinical Lead for our paediatric dysphagia service at the Royal Alex Children's Hospital in Brighton. You will be responsible for delivering a highly specialist SLT service involving the assessment, diagnosis and management of neonates, infants, young children and adolescents with complex feeding and swallowing disorders. You will also be responsible, in conjunction with a Consultant in Paediatric Radiology, for the organisation of a videofluoroscopv swallow study clinic. You will clinically supervise and manage a part-time Band 7 Dysphagia Specialist SLT. Excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously are essential.

This is a permanent post comprising of 8 sessions per week (30 hours), although the hours could be reduced to 225hrs per week.
Locations will include
• Trevor Mann Baby Unit, Royal Sussex County Hospital
• Maternity Unit, Royal Sussex County Hospital
• Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (wards and outpatient clinics)
• Outreach service to local clinics and schools.

You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including dieticians and other medical personnel. You will also be part of a wider Speech and Language Therapy Team which is part of the Integrated Child Development and Disability Service in Brighton and Hove. There are strong links with other Dysphagia Specialist SLTs in West and East Sussex. You will take a leading role in an area wide Paediatric Dysphagia Support Group, and the development of paediatric dysphagia training to local SLTs.
