Job Description

Social Workers (Children With Disabilities / Transition Unit)

Salary: £31,368 - £38,376 (£40,218 unconsolidated maximum through performance related progression) per annum - grade 8

Full-time: 36 hours per week
Annual leave: 27 days per annum plus bank holidays

Recruitment and Retention Measures:

  • £1000 welcome bonus payment (only applicable if appointed at scale point 38 and above)
  • £1000 retention bonus payment after 12 months, paid annually (only applicable if appointed at scale point 38 and above)
  • Payment of HCPC registration
  • The entitlement of up to 5 days additional annual leave (up to a maximum of 32 days) - based on your continuous local government service date as a qualified social worker

We have a rare opportunity for experienced Social Workers to join this stable, supportive and experienced multi-agency service in either our Children With Disabilities Team or our Transition Unit. Both posts are located at the Sutton Civic offices.

You will be a qualified and experienced Social Worker, with either direct experience of working with children with disabilities / transitions or be keen to make the move into these service areas, having a sound knowledge and experience of working in another children's social care team.

Sutton has an excellent reputation for its work with disabled children. We have developed a wide range of commissioned services to support disabled children and their families. The service have strong working relationships with their parents through the Sutton Parents Forum and with other professionals through the Transition Partnership Board and the Sutton Disability Partnership.

The Transition Unit is responsible for young people 14+ who are likely to require services from Adult social care as they become adults. The unit comprises of 4 social workers and includes an element of cross working and undertaking of Adult assessments. Line management will come from the Children with Disabilities Team. The work includes Child Protection, Looked After Children and Children In Need from assessments and person-centred planning through to plans.

The Children with Disabilities post covers the full range of social work tasks with children and young people 0-18 years of age.

There is a strong commitment to supervision and training in Sutton with regular training events both within the team and within the department generally.
