What is ERT?
Treatment is given for patients with Lysosomal Storage Disorders, such as MPS diseases, Pompe, Fabry, and Gaucher.
IV enzyme replacement are administered to adults & children, weekly or fortnightly.
Adult ERT is often delivered via cannula, paediatric ERT is often administered via a portacath, but occasionally cannulation is required.
An ERT visit can be anything from an hour in length up to about 6 hours.
We provide training around ERT as part of our competency based learning & assessments as this is a specialist area of nursing. We also can provide training & assessment around portacaths if required.
To be suitable for this role you will need recent IV skills and previous line experience. Cannulation experience will be advantageous.
Visits for Stelara are usually 15- 30 minutes and ERT anything up to 4 hours.
You will need to be competent in the administration of IV drugs and infusion via all types of lines. Cannulation and venepuncture competency is desirable. Proven experience in acute care essential.
Applicants must be a Level 1 Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN and a full UK driving licence.
