Job Description

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and enthusiastic band 7 paediatric musculoskeletal/ orthopaedic physiotherapist, to join the Paediatric Therapy team within Southampton Children’s Hospital.

This unique job enables the post holder to incorporate the whole repertoire of their skills to work across outpatient MSK, hydrotherapy, orthopaedic clinic and inpatient settings. The successful post holder will be based largely within the children’s outpatient MSK/orthopaedic physiotherapy service assessing and treating children of all ages on a individual or group basis. As a centre dedicated to improving patient care and enhancing patient pathway, this role is also expected to work alongside another band 7 MSK therapist to provide high calibre assessment and intervention, supervise less senior staff and undertake appropriate service improvements. As a Major trauma centre we treat all complex multi-trauma children from the region but also house multiple other specialist orthopaedic services including scoliosis repair and multilevel surgery.

Southampton Children’s Hospital is one of 10 largest children’s hospitals within the UK and located within Southampton General Hospital which is a large regional teaching hospital with links to the university and welcome trust research facility. Children’s services have been graded as ‘good’ by CQC and excellent by the major trauma peer review. We have a vast range of Paediatric specialities including a level 3 PICU, and being a designated major trauma, neurosurgical, neuro-rehabilitation and cardiac centre.

The successful post holder will become an integral part of our 30 strong combined Paediatric Occupational and Physiotherapy Therapy team and wider Therapy services department of over 180 WTE.

The post has excellent opportunities for further developing both services and individuals clinical and theoretical skills. They will work in a dynamic and forward thinking team participating in regular audits and teaching.

The successful applicant will be expected to work within our team philosophy, which is “We strongly believe in team working in a happy working environment. Workloads are shared and communication/ support is strongly encouraged. We are mutually responsible for the service and its development, and expect everyone to carry out a certain level of responsibility.”

The UHS Therapy services department runs a 7 day service, using a rota system so weekend working and ‘on call’ will be expected.
