We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 speech and language therapist in our acute inpatient unit at Darent Valley Hospital (attracting a 5% high cost of living allowance).
You will be working with other speech and language therapists, instructors, a well-established outpatient team, and excellent administrative support.
Whilst the work is predominantly on the 23-bedded acute stroke unit, you will also work in critical care, respiratory and elderly medical wards. You will be confident in managing a caseload independently, assessing and treating patients with a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties, particularly stroke-related and more complex cases. Working on the ASU is MDT-focused, where there are close team links including with other AHPs.
Experience in video fluoroscopy and tracheostomy is desirable, and we can offer support in developing or maintaining competencies in these, for example in our weekly video fluoroscopy clinic. There is a FEES service available in the wider SLT team.
We offer a friendly and supportive working environment, with peer support and regular clinical and managerial supervision. There is access to informal and formal training and CPD opportunities, where learning and sharing is strongly encouraged. We strive for ongoing service development, and participation in projects and audits to this end is highly valued.
We will always appoint the best person for the job, but applications are particularly welcome from candidates from BAME groups which are underrepresented in our service.
This role is eligible for our Scottish Widows group personal pension scheme.
Medway Community Healthcare CIC is a social enterprise that is co-owned by its employees. As new employees to our organisation we anticipate that you will become co-owners of our organisation which will give you greater involvement and an opportunity to influence key decisions. We are a Living Wage employer and are committed to the safeguarding and welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
