Salary will include an additional 20% Recruitment and Retention Premia, currently effective until 30th September 2017.

This is an opportunity to join York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s ambitious programme of service modernisation in Acute Care working in Scarborough Hospital in the Emergency Department.

The Hospital is situated in the coastal holiday town of Scarborough on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Despite it’s apparent remote site, there is good rail connectivity with the Northern City corridor across to York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool, which also allows quick connections to London as well as to regional and national airports.

Scarborough Hospital has a good reputation for Education and the ED consultants take senior roles in education for both Doctors in formal training, and those currently in Speciality Posts.

There is a desire to develop the skills of our Speciality Doctors, so consequently we intend to support their educational needs.

The postgraduate department hosts ATLS and ALS courses (Directed by ED consultants) and also offers a Clinical Skills Service (led by one of the ED consultants) running simulation based training in clinical skills such as chest drain placement and central line insertion as well as the management of Sick patients (RAMSI) and development sessions in Ultrasound use in the ED, following the RCEM Ultrasound Curriculum.

An educational agreement will be developed with the appointee.

The post-holder will join a team consisting of 4 consultants in the A&E service and 8 middle Grade Doctors including EM Trainees and Speciality Doctors, supported by junior Doctors serving a population of approximately 300,000.

Candidates must have full GMC Registration.

The successful candidate will act in a specialty doctor capacity supporting and Leading the junior doctors working on the shop floor, and be involved in the care of patients presenting with the full spectrum of acute and emergency conditions.

The ability to manage the department is a skill we see as important and training will be supplied.

Audit work will be a part of this role.

It is expected that the Specialty Doctor will be able to lead resuscitation so evidence of provider status in ALS or ATLS is preferred.

The Specialty Doctor will have the opportunity to be involved in review clinics with the Consultant of the day and with the care of ED ward patients in Scarborough.
