Specialty Doctor in Infectious Diseases

£38,302 - £71,425 (salary placing will be based on experience)

Applications are invited for this position of Specialty Doctor in Infectious Diseases based in Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The successful applicant will join a department which includes:

• One Consultants

• One Specialty Doctors (this post)

• Four Clinical Nurse Specialist

Infectious Diseases has approximately 10-15 patients predominantly in a General Medical ward (Ward 10) as we as ; 2-4 patients as outliers as well as patients in medical HDU; ITU. This post is suitable for someone wishing to develop skills in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine.

The service priority is developing and delivering Outpatient & Home Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPHAT) with a team of 2 specialist nurses and weekly orthopaedic ward round. We have good links with Glasgow (Brownlee Unit) and Edinburgh RIDU and SLTU (Regional Infectious Diseases Unit; Scottish Liver Transplant Unit). An annual ID/Micro training meeting shares clinical experience across Scotland.

Experienced Clinical Nurse Specialists now provide care within DGRI and across the region with nurse led Hepatitis C and Hepatitis B treatment clinics including prison in-reach and collaboration with substance misuse services.

The Specialty Doctor will be involved in the assessment and care of patients in both ID and General Medicine. Relevant training will be provided. The post will also include cover for the medical on call rota and weekend cover (1 in 6 with compensatory time off).

Re-design of services at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is currently underway, and NHS Dumfries and Galloway have been given the approval to start planning for a 'new build' hospital, with 344 beds, which will be completed by winter 2017. This new build will ensure NHS D&G staff are able to continue to provide high quality clinical care to the population of Dumfries and Galloway in a modern environment.
