The Priory Hospital Middleton St George is located close to Darlington, County Durham and provides individualised treatment and care for people with mental health needs of adult working age and who present with complex and challenging behaviours, in a safe and supportive environment. Our comprehensive integrated services offer complete care pathways allowing service users to transfer effortlessly between the most appropriate care, meeting individual needs enabling recovery and re-engagement within the community and maximising life opportunities.
Our multi-disciplinary teams work collaboratively with up to 73 male and female service users and their commissioners, across 5 wards and a step down community facility in Darlington town centre. We deliver acute and inpatient detoxification services, and a recovery and rehabilitation environment which includes a specialist female Personality Disorder service. Our focus is on the delivery of excellent care, empowering service users to progress towards the least restrictive setting and towards independence.
As a result of career progression, a Specialty Doctor in Acute Psychiatry vacancy has arisen on Thoburn Unit at The Priory Hospital Middleton St George (Priory MSG).
Priory MSG operates a consultant-led medical model, with manageable patient caseloads and plentiful support from on-site GP services and either Specialty Doctors or Advanced Practitioners/Nurse Prescribers. The focus across the site is on high quality expert psychiatric care delivered to the wards by Consultants, Specialty Doctors, and Advanced Practitioners who are specifically trained and skilled in the models of care, and who are clinical leaders for values, ethics, and innovation. The medical team comprises five consultants, three Advanced Practitioners, and one Specialty Doctor. It is a cohesive and diverse team and works together as a functional problem-solving department. There is a strong medical presence in governance and audit at the site. The medical team meets weekly for peer group, supervision, and clinical discussion purposes. The successful applicant will be expected to join this demanding, but flexible and enjoyable approach to the delivery of psychiatric expertise across the site.
Thoburn Unit is a well-established 20-bed acute admissions ward, accepting adult patients of any gender from across the country. The service operates within a robust clinical model that focuses on a comprehensive assessment of care needs and prompt delivery of care plans designed to enable the patient to stabilise and return to their community safely at the earliest opportunity. As many patients are out of area, liaison with home teams and careful discharge planning is central to the care planning process. Priory MSG is looking to recruit a new Specialty Doctor to work alongside the full-time consultant for Thoburn and within the established and highly skilled MDT.
The successful candidate will be joining an expanding and clinically diverse hospital. There is strong governance at the hospital and the successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in service and quality development and to participate in the weekly doctors’ meeting. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in working in acute psychiatry, and a commitment to innovation, evidence-based interventions, multi-professional working and service-user involvement.
The Priory Hospital Middleton St George operates a two-tier medical on call rota and this post includes a residential on-call commitment equivalent to a 1 in 5 rota. This requires the post-holder to be within 30 minutes’ drive of the hospital when on call. On-site on-call accommodation is available if required.What we’d like to give you:
