SSD Technician

Job Description

We are a pioneering research active organisation and we are proud to be doing things differently; whether that be redefining the shape of the local health and care system through our innovative plans for integrated care, or developing new services such as our Frail Older Person’s Assessment Service and our Medically Fit for Discharge Ward.

As well as creating the future, we also know the importance of providing really good, safe, and caring services for our patients. Our iCARE ethos sets out the principles which every member of our staff works to, ensuring good communication, attitude, respect and care for the hospital environment. Our patients tell us we’re getting this right, with our Friends and Family Test results consistently above 95 per cent (patients ‘extremely likely’ or ‘likely’ to recommend us to their friends and family).

We currently have a vacancy for a full time or two part time Band 2 Sterile Services Department (SSD) Technician positions to work with our dedicated team within the SSD at Yeovil District Hospital.

The SSD is an accredited decontamination unit which was purpose built and opened in September 2010.

The role of SSD Technician involves working in all areas of the decontamination process of surgical instrumentation; which includes wash room, inspect and pack room, autoclave and dispatch room, endoscopy wash and clean room.

You will work as part of a dedicated team and rotate through all areas and all shift patterns to provide an important and essential service to the hospital in supporting patient care.

We would welcome experienced, qualified candidates; however individuals with no experience would gain full training and be expected to work towards City & Guilds Decontamination Qualifications.

If you are interested in the above position and would like to arrange an informal visit or discussion, please contact

We also have a range of nursing, medical and GP vacancies. If you know of anyone who might be interested in these roles we’d be delighted to hear from them. You can find our adverts for these posts by searching for Yeovil District Hospital in the employers list on NHS Jobs, or please contact our Recruitment Team on  ( Phone number removed ) , or ( Email address removed ) for details.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a Work Permit)

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
