Staff Nurse - Acute and Emergency Medicine

Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit to staff nurse posts in Emergency Medicine at the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital. We have opportunities on a number of wards and in some of our departments, where you will be working in dynamic and forward thinking teams. You will be supported with training to enhance your experience and career to care for patients in the following specialties:

  • Acute Medical Unit, incorporating the Medical Assessment Unit - Contact for further information Matron Diane Wilson  ( Phone number removed )
  • Emergency Department - Contact for further information Matron Valerie Parkin  ( Phone number removed )

The recruitment process will take place as part of an assessment centre. This will take place on the 1st December 2016 therefore please ensure that you are available on this date.

The Trust uses central assessment centres to recruit all Band 5 Nurses. This means that if you have applied for more than one vacancy with the Trust you will be invited to assessment via one vacancy, this does not mean that you are eliminated from any other Nursing vacancy’s you have applied for with the Trust.

The ambition of our process is to enable you to feel as relaxed as possible so that you are able to demonstrate your knowledge and skills within a supportive environment. Our interview process provides an objective assessment of your skills through group clinical scenarios and an individual interview. The scenarios may be based upon the generic role of the staff nurse/ODP or may include more specialised scenarios pertinent to specialist areas.

The interviewers on the clinical scenario panels may not be working in the area in which you wish to work, this is because nurses at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust all work to our PROUD principles and we believe that having a wider interview panel will improve the quality of your interview and maintain our objective assessment process.

During the interview process there is an opportunity for you to be interviewed on your own by two senior Trust staff. There will also be an opportunity for you to discuss your clinical interests and discuss the vacancies that we have.

For those staff who are currently employed by the Trust as a Staff Nurse, you should instead apply through the Staff Nurse transfer process via your line manager.

Should you be successful in your application we will contact you via NHS Jobs with interview details and require you to book an interview time via NHS Jobs. This will appear as a message attached to the application for this vacancy under 'My NHS Jobs' and 'My Interviews' on your homepage. Please ensure you check your NHS Jobs account regularly.

Shortlisting for positions advertised on NHS Jobs for the Trust will ordinarily be shortlisted within 4 weeks of the closing date, therefore if you have not received any notifications after this point your application is considered unsuccessful.

In submitting an application form, you authorise our Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the ESR IAT process should you be appointed.

The Trust is committed to its obligations in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, and we positively encourage applications from all sections of the community. Should you require any assistance in applying for the position please contact the Human Resources Department on the number identified on the NHS Jobs page for the organisation.

Job Share applicants are welcome for all full time posts unless indicated but cannot be guaranteed. In addition for Fixed Term Contracts, internal secondments may be considered, please seek the approval of your current line manager before applying for the position.

All employment with the Trust is subject to a number of NHS Employment Checks being met to a satisfactory standard including verification of identity, eligibility to work in the United Kingdom, references and qualifications in addition to professional registration, a disclosure and barring records check and occupational health check if these are deemed to be a requirement for the position to be undertaken.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
