Staff Nurse - HMP Bullingdon

Job Description

Break into Prison Healthcare!

HMP Bullingdon is a local Cat C prison for adult males and young offenders. It has a training function and regime for sex offenders and holds up to 1,114 prisoners, with a 21 bed inpatient unit.

Care UK took over management of the NHS Healthcare Services at HMP Bullingdon on 1st April 2016.

About Care UK

Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Bullingdon, we’re looking for Staff Nurse’s to join our team and make a difference!

About the role

As a Staff Nurse, the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in Health promotion or A&E, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.

About you

As an RGN 1 with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and experience of carrying out clinical audits. We’ll want to see evidence of your continued professional development, and a real passion for taking your skills even further.
It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.
Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

What are Care UK offering?

The salary range is £24,000 - £30,000 per annum - dependent on experience.

Care UK Benefits include 25 days annual leave + 8 public bank holidays, 2 x life assurance and a contributory pension scheme. There is also free onsite staff parking.

We are also proud to support our employees with continued professional development opportunities and further education subject to service needs...
One of our nurses has said 'I can safely say that Care UK has been very supportive of any further education I wished to undertake, and seminars I wanted to attend. They have helped me to improve my career pathway as a prison nurse with BBV specialist interest.'
