Staff Nurse Band 5

Job Description

The Hospice in the Hospital is a unique partnership between United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, South West Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group and St Barnabas Hospice Trust. The Unit, based on the Grantham Hospital site, provides six nurse-led, community beds and provides care for patients who meet the following criteria:

  • End of life
  • Requiring symptom control
  • Palliative rehabilitation
  • Carer break down, to prevent admission to acute hospital

Admissions to the Unit are planned and pre-emptive prescribing and advanced care planning are routinely undertaken to enable care to be delivered with minimal support from general practitioners. The Unit is not a “stand alone facility” and is integrated into the wider Grantham Hospital Site with senior nurse manager and nurse support provided from the wider Grantham Hospital.

About the Role….

Would you like to have time to care, spend time supporting and listening to patients at the end of life but with the challenge of managing complex symptoms?

Does working as part of a supportive team where there is a focus on developing the skills required to care for patients at the end of life appeal to you?

What we’re looking for…..

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed current first level registered Nurse who is able to demonstrate an understanding and passion for palliative care. Suitable candidates will have previous experience of working with palliative and end of life patients either in an acute setting or the community. Prior experience of working autonomously is an advantage.

Suitable candidates must be able to evidence continued learning and development . A post registration qualification in palliative and/or end of life care would be desirable.

Please note that we do not accept CVs

Applications from applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
