The Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) is a fast paced, challenging and exciting unit to work in. Patients are pre-assessed by their General Practitioner or the Emergency Department and attend the unit either for medical assessment or for admission to the Frail Elderly Unit or Clinical Observation and Decision Unit. Patients are assessed by a team of Acute Physicians, Consultant Physicians and Consultants in Emergency Medicine, alongside a team of highly skilled nurses. Patients are then observed for a short time within the unit, admitted to speciality wards, transferred to an Ambulatory care pathway or discharged home. We also have a 3 bedded level 1 monitored area. The unit is coordinated 24 hours a day by a team of Deputy Sisters/ Charge Nurses. The unit has a visible and approachable senior leadership team.

We are looking for both Staff Nurses and Senior Staff Nurses, to complement our team. The senior leadership team are committed to valuing and supporting each individual’s development, and to promoting the quality and service that the unit provides to our patients.

If you have considered acute medical nursing we would welcome you to come and visit us, and we will spend time showing you around, introducing you to the team, and showing you what is involved in relation to care and assessment and pathways on our MAU.

To book an appointment to visit please contact Crystal Tite, Ward Manager or June Slater, Ward Managers Assistant on  ( Phone number removed )  or via email at ( Email address removed )
