Staff Nurse

Job Description

We have fantastic opportunities for Staff Nurses to join our Advanced and Specialist Practitioners in Palliative Care working within our inpatient unit. You will work as part of an integrated team of nurses and contribute to the overall care of patients and families referred to St Giles Hospice.

Specialising in the advisory component of this support you will have shared clinical responsibility for the patients within one area. As a team member you will contribute to a positive supportive working environment with an emphasis on team work and cooperation. You will provide a face to face and telephone service for patients and their families.

We are looking for exceptional Staff Nurse who can demonstrate evidence-based practice, up to date clinical skills, flexibility and a commitment to the delivery of an effective and efficient nursing service. Your experience will have been gained in either community or inpatient settings and be transferable to your new role.

You must be motivated, forward thinking and committed to patient care in providing clinical support to patients with long-term conditions and end of life care needs.

Current NMC Registration, strong communication and team-working skills and an empathetic disposition are essential. You will have good I.T. skills and be organised in your approach to your workload. Experience of hospice/palliative care is desirable and applicants must have 12 months post registration experience working in a healthcare inpatient environment.

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity providing high-quality medical and nursing care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as offering support for their families and helpers. Care is offered in a variety of ways according to the individual’s needs and are offered out in the community as well as from 4 main sites: Whittington, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall and Uttoxeter.

There is no charge to patients for the specialist services we offer. We receive funding from the NHS but primarily we rely on fundraising activities and legacies, together with trading activities (including a Care Agency) to support our work. We employ more than 400 people across a broad range of roles – from direct patient care to fundraising and administration as well as support from over 1500 volunteers to provide our services.
