Job Description

Ambulatory emergency care is an emerging, streamlined way of managing patients presenting to hospital who would traditionally be admitted. Instead, they can be treated in an ambulatory care setting and discharged the same day – offering benefits to patients, carers, support workers and NHS trusts. (Royal College of Physicians 2014).

Located at the Peterborough City Hospital, our Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is a rapidly developing and exciting department. We have recently seen a dramatic rise in the number of emergency patients who have attended the unit for whom we have avoided the need to spend a night in hospital. This achieves high patient satisfaction and is a rewarding and exciting department to work in. We are therefore looking for an additional band 5 nurse to join this exciting team on its continued journey of development.

We also provide services of the Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) clinic, Out-patient Anti-microbial Treatments, regular infusions for specialist conditions, specialist blood tests and blood transfusions.

Interested parties at Band 5 level must be enthusiastic about innovation and be able to demonstrate good patient care. IV drug administration and management of IV lines will be useful as would venepuncture and cannulation skills. The successful post holder must be able to work a twelve hour shift pattern including weekends. You will need to be aware that there is likely to be further expansion in opening hours in the future and shift patterns are liable to change.
