Job Description

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of around 230,000 people in the Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney areas. The Trust provides an integrated hospital and community children’s service.

An opportunity has arisen for Full or part time band 5 staff nurses within the Surgical Out Patient department at James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The recent CQC report rated our outpatient services as “Good”, with referral to treatment times being “Better than the England Average” and waiting times for suspected cancers as “exceptionally good”.

We currently have a wide variety of clinics being held in various locations across the James Paget Hospital site, including general, breast, urology, plastics and vascular. Oncology clinics are also part of the service that we cover. The Trust has plans for a new ‘outpatient village’ so this is an exciting time to join our team.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with an interest in outpatient nursing. Previous experience in a clinical setting is an advantage, however, the department is an excellent opportunity for both experienced and newly registered nurses to develop skills and knowledge across a variety of specialties.

Good communication skills are essential as is an ability to work well with others. You will have excellent nursing skills, be compassionate, flexible and a great team player.

This post will be based in Main Surgical Outpatients although you may be required to work generically across any of the James Paget Outpatient areas to meet service need. Flexibility regarding sociable hours is an important element for all Outpatient staff and the recent CQC report shows that Outpatient staff felt proud to work at this trust. Outpatient departments are busy, friendly environments where teams are required to have a pro-active approach to a rapidly changing service .You will undertake and co-ordinate a range of clinical activity, manage the department in the absence of senior staff and become an effective member of the multidisciplinary team.
