Job Description

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides services through its three hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester. We provide all general hospital services for planned and emergency care as well as specialist services. These include Pseudomyxoma Peritonei for which we are one of the only two national centres treating this rare abdominal cancer. The Trust also provides services at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover and outpatient services are provided in Alton, Bordon and Romsey.

The Orthopaedics department at Hampshire Hospitals (Winchester site) are looking for enthusiastic and caring individuals to join us to provide the highest quality care to our patients. The team have just won the Team Award for Surgical Services at the local Director of Nursing Awards. You will be part of a team of supportive nurses who possess excellent communication, organisational and clinical skills. If you are a Band 5 Nurse or soon to qualify and are looking for a challenging opportunity, we have a role for you. We can offer a supportive and friendly environment led by a Clinical Matron who is supported by a Senior Sister. The Clinical leads works alongside staff, supporting them to meet their potential. Day to day, the unit is led by an experienced team of junior sisters/charge nurses.

We provide regular lunchtime teaching sessions including ward based SIM training – simulated clinical scenarios . Part of the Orthopaedics course on offer will include:

- Best practice in fracture management
- Overview of the Musculoskeletal system
- Management of patients with spinal injury
- Managing patients with casts and traction
- Pain management (including PCAs and epidural management).

For newly qualified nurses before attending this course you would be allocated a place on our preceptorship programme. The Preceptorship Programme offered at Hampshire Hospitals is an excellent opportunity to begin your nursing career within a friendly, supportive and caring environment. You will be given study leave and a named experienced nurse mentor to support you through the programme and a dedicated facilitator who oversees the programme to ensure you receive continuous support and learning opportunities.
