Job Description

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust
Surgical Pre-Assessment Team - Sutton

Part time – one year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave or secondment (with possibility of extending)

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading cancer centres in the world and has an international reputation for the care and treatment it provides. The Royal Marsden serves a local, regional, national and international population from two hospital sites, Chelsea and Sutton.

Are you a surgical nurse or anaesthetic nurse with an interest cancer care? Or are you a cancer nurse looking for a change and development opportunity? Why not consider joining our team?

Our Admissions and Pre-assessment Team co-ordinate all in-patient bookings and streamline patients’ surgical pathway by ensuring most aspects of care are planned prior to admission. The pre-assessment clinic runs Monday to Friday and the pre-assessment nurse’s role incorporates giving holistic assessments to patients undergoing surgery for cancer. The successful candidate may also have opportunity to utilise their wound care and surgical care skills by working in a nurse-led dressing clinic and the minor op clinics in Outpatients.

Working as an autonomous practitioner and collaborating with medical colleagues, you will work within a dedicated team and acquire valuable lifelong nursing skills. We are therefore looking for an experienced surgical or oncology nurse with a keen interest in developing advanced clinical assessment skills. In return for a year’s commitment to our service (with the possibility of extending), we would support you in completing a physical assessment module or other appropriate training.

Applicants must have at least three years post-registration experience in an acute care setting, other relevant clinical experience e.g. cancer nursing, pre-operative care or surgical nursing and a commitment to advanced practice training.
