STAG Local Coordinator

Job Description

Department of Emergency Medicine Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Scottish Trauma Audit Group (STAG)

Local Audit Co-ordinator

Band 6

25 hours - flexible (job share considered)

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh sees over 130000 patients per year and is currently the busiest receiving hospital for trauma in Scotland. Major Trauma networks are currently being developed across Scotland and the RIE is to become the Major Trauma Centre for the South East Region.

STAG is a national project aimed at improving survival of patients suffering major trauma. The collection of accurate information regarding trauma cases is vital to improve the quality of trauma service delivered.

We are looking for an experienced dynamic and organised individual to co-ordinate STAG audit activities in the department.

An important part of your role will be to accurately collect and code data working closely with the lead consultant and with the multi-disciplinary teams who manage the patient groups we are auditing thereby enabling clinical practice to be improved by the results of the audit. Analysis and reporting of the national audits is undertaken centrally but a key part of your role will be to ensure optimal dissemination of results within your department. Your contribution at multidisciplinary clinical governance meetings and developing quality improvement initiatives are an important part of the role.

You will be a registered clinician e.g. Nurse/AHP with evidence of current registration and post registration experience at Band 5 or equivalent with experience of working with trauma patients. You will also have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently ideally with some experience of data management audit or research. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential with the confidence to interact with NHS staff at all levels. Good numeracy and computer skills are also necessary.
