Job Description

Named as one of the 100 best places to work in the NHS by the Health Service Journal in 2015, Southern Health is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health, adult and child community health, learning disabilities and social care services.


We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic, committed and flexible support workers to join our team.

We support 2 gentlemen who have very complex support needs with learning disabilities in the Locksheath/Park Gate area. They live in 2 separate self-contained apartments within the same building. They are both intelligent, perceptive individuals who thrive on enthusiasm, positive engagement and interaction. They can on occasions present with behaviours which may challenge. The staff team work together supporting both gentlemen with all aspects of their daily lives, including personal care, finance, attending health appointments, household tasks, shopping, cooking, laundry and leisure activities – both in and out of the home.

We have full-time and part-time positions available.

We would welcome applications from people who have excellent communication skills and are highly motivated to enable others to live a full enriched life as independently as possible.

Our staff are required to work a flexible shift patterns to ensure support is provided 24 hours a day including waking nights, weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. A full UK driving license is essential.

We offer competitive rates of pay, together with excellent terms and conditions, including NHS pension and discounts, a comprehensive induction programme and excellent training program.

Successful applicants will need to attend a Trust Induction Programme as well as in house induction and bespoke training.

Salary from £15,215 up to £19,461 – Full time per annum, dependent on skills, qualifications and the needs of the service. Child care vouchers available.

A DBS check is required by the Employer for this post. The Employer will undertake an initial check at the appropriate level on appointment. As a condition of employment you are required to register with the online DBS update service and maintain this registration throughout employment; costs associated with this will be reimbursed, subject to taxation in line with guidance from HMRC. You will comply with all Employer processes in order to provide yearly permission to the Employer enabling it to view your status and to undertake random checks as required. If you change to a role where a check would no longer be required this will be confirmed and you may end your membership if desired.
