BMI Healthcare’s Goring Hall Hospital in Goring-by-Sea has a vacancy for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

The hospital team includes over 90 consultants who are assisted by a Resident Medical Officer, available 24 hours a day. Goring Hall Hospital has 170 employees and 130 bank staff. We handle over 2,000 inpatient, 4,000 day case and 3,000 outpatient procedures a year.

The hospital has 3 main Theatres, an Endoscopy Theatre and a Minor Operations Suite. Patient accommodation consists of Ilex ward (22 beds), Extended Recovery (4 beds) Day Care Unit (12 beds) and a “walk in walk out” lounge.

All practitioners receive the support necessary to develop competency
Internal and external training courses offered to support safe practice.
Dedicated endoscopy team and identified leads for each speciality.
All lists are staffed according to AfPP recommendations.
There lists run 6 days a week between 08:00- 20:00.

Ilex Ward

Main specialities are Orthopaedics, Spinal surgery, Gynaecology, Urology & General Surgery.
The hospital has innovated pathways that deliver predictable elective surgery.
22 individual patient rooms, 4 bed extended recovery.
Three shift system with internal rotation, shifts are managed on a 6 week rolling rota
Patient to nurse ratio gives our team ‘time to nurse’

Day Care Unit

Day case and ambulatory care
Main specialities are: Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Urology, Gynaecology
Early and late shift pattern
Rotation to other departments supported: Pre-assessment, Recovery & Ward

Consulting Suite

Excellent learning environment across all specialities
Some services offered 7 days a week

Cancer Services

The Mulberry Suite offer day case chemotherapy
The team also support cancer related outpatient and inpatient services
Coordinate the whole patient journey
Secondment opportunities available

This role is offered on a Bank basis, with shifts offered on an 'as and when required' basis. To cover periods of leave and to supplement staff during busy times.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HPC registration
  • Approved/recognised anaesthetic course.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience of applying clinical reasoning skills across a range and varied patient case mix and competent across a range of skills are desirable
  • ENB 998 and/or mentorship course is desirable
  • ILS is desirable
  • ALS is desirable
  • External Advanced Scrub Practitioner Course is desirable

Duties of this role include:

  • To provide quality planned care for patients during their peri operative phase of care
  • To support and assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the Operating Department
  • Deliver and supervise care that helps improve the health of the individual and wider community.
  • Demonstrate compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.
  • Develop own competence to deliver effective care and treatments through improving clinical /technical knowledge / skill, and expertise.
  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient.
  • Act as an advocate for safeguarding patients, demonstrate courage to speak up when there are concerns about care.
  • Demonstrate commitment to improving care and the patient experience
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care
  • Contribute to quality improvement
  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of others and self
  • Promote best evidence based practice within own scope of practice
  • Apply legislation, policies and procedures correctly.
  • Respect the patient’s dignity, privacy, wishes and beliefs.
