Job Description

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was formed in October 2013, following the merger of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. The Trust was named as one of the top 100 healthcare employers in HSJ's 2014 survey on the best places to work.

Over the last year, key developments have included:

  • Ongoing work with health and social care partners to reduce A&E waiting times and improve the discharge process.
  • Improvements to how we manage patient information – with the introduction of new systems of electronic patient records at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham.
  • Our ongoing recruitment campaign, which has increased the number of permanent staff by over 400 since the merger.
  • Work to improve infection control, such as the introduction of new hand hygiene foam or gel dispensers in public areas around our sites.
  • New services and facilities, such as the midwifery-led Greenwich Birth Centre, which opened in May 2015.

Scrub Practitioner

We are seeking exceptionally committed, motivated patient focused individuals to join our friendly dynamic team in our exciting expansion of our existing Elective Surgical Centre based at University Hospital Lewisham. We are building additional theatres to accommodate this expansion within the existing foot print of the hospital.

We take pride in the provision of a first class service to our local community who have in turn supported the hospital with a combination of inpatient and day case surgery. We have recently repatriated our urology services to Lewisham and they are currently working within a vanguard theatre adjacent to the Riverside theatres. We provide a wide variety of surgical specialities in both elective and emergency surgery Orthopaedic, Bariatric, Colorectal, General, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Obstetrics and Paediatric and ENT Surgery.

Riverside Theatres are based on the ground floor with its own admitting unit and our Day Surgical ward located in the Riverside Treatment Centre which is so named as located next to the Ravensbourne River which runs round the edge of Ladywell Park .Our other theatre suite is based on the 3rd floor named after a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Nigel Boobbyer who worked at Lewisham. These theatres have a dedicated admissions unit Bell ward and are located close to the ITU and HDU units

Come and join our team of experienced operating department assistants and anaesthetic nurses who will support and mentor you in developing and adding to your skills. Alongside our dedicated Clinical Governance and Practise Development facilitator
