We have a number of opportunities for talented and motivated individuals to join our team of Therapeutic Care Workers which will be based within our Bisley and Newcombe Lodge units in Stroud.

We provide therapeutic residential care and education for women aged 13-21 who typically self-harm, have attachment difficulties, associated multiple risk-taking behaviours and complex presentations.

Our Therapeutic Care Worker role involves:

  • Being responsible for the supervision of Clients who display a range of emotional, behavioural, psychological and other mental health problems
  • Demonstrating an ability to operate as a member of a team
  • Ensuring that you understand and are able to implement all requirements of Mental Health Specialist Services’ Policies and Procedures
  • Undertaking a variety of administrative duties which are pertinent to the running of the service
  • Ensuring clear lines of communication are utilised, promoting the welfare of the Clients, including liaising with parents/carers and other professionals/agencies ie: Social Workers, Nurses and Psychotherapists
  • Assisting each Client with the development of their Education through Mental Health Specialist Services Education Services, and working closely with teaching staff (as appropriate)
  • Assisting the Clients with personal care as appropriate
  • Contributing towards the preparation of meals and supporting the catering staff as appropriate
  • Monitoring and recording the general care, weight and nutrition of the Clients
  • Working on behalf of the Clients to educate and provide positive advice regarding any aspect of their health care requirements, including raising their awareness of HIV/AIDS
  • Participating in holidays and other activities and to promote and encourage Clients to contribute towards the planning of such holidays/activities
  • On successful completion of the Probationary Period, and if appropriate, the applicant will be appointed as a permanent Therapeutic Care Worker, which includes Key Working responsibilities
  • Assisting with the Health & Safety requirements of the service, including Fire Safety, Gas and Electricity safety, and abide by all risk assessments and COSHH requirements
  • Adhering to the company vehicle policy ensuring that safety is paramount at all times
  • Ensuring appropriate medication is administered and recorded as prescribed and ensure high safety standards in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Informing your Line Manager of any suspicions or allegations of abuse, ensuring appropriate action is taken
  • Undertaking waking nights duties on a rotational basis, as directed by your Line Manager
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Attending individual and group supervision sessions as directed by your Line Manager
  • Being familiar with therapeutic models and interventions including person centre therapy
  • Participating in identified training requirements and continuing personal and professional vocational activities
  • Participating in the IDPR appraisal scheme

Employment Terms and Conditions:

  • The post is permanent
  • 375 hours per week
  • Salary is starting at £17,500 and is £17,50000–£19,00000 on successful completion of probation and passing the QCF course
  • Shifts Monday – Sunday (730 am – 330 pm and 230pm – 1030pm)
  • On appointment you will serve a six months probationary period
  • You will receive documented Supervision sessions:
  • Fortnightly during probationary period
  • Monthly after successfully passing probationary period.
  • The notice period required is one week during probationary period and thereafter one month
  • You will be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure before the appointment is confirmed
  • You will be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
  • Employees of Mental Health Specialist Service operate within a framework of Anti-bullying/Anti-discriminatory practice and Equal Opportunities
  • You will be aware of fire precautions and the Unit’s procedures in the event of an emergency and ensure all monitoring/checking is carried out.
