Job Description

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 160 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Health Support Worker to join our team.

Our unit provides care for people with dementia and we provide assessment, interventions and treatment during an acute phase of their illness. You will need to have the relevant personal attributes to support people at this difficult time, through their personal journey to discharge from the ward.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team in a patient focused and empathetic way, to support people during their admission. To do this effectively you will need to have a caring, non-judgmental and understanding attitude.

In return for your hard work, flexibility and commitment we will offer you an interesting work environment with good levels of supervision, training and support.

The role involves working a full shift rotation including nights and weekends (including bank holidays) to ensure the ward is covered over the 24 hour period.

The HCA training programme will last 2 years during which time individuals will be expected to achieve Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, the Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 3 and meet the required competencies of the role.

*Salary during training will be in accordance with Annex U of Agendafor Change:

During 1st year: £13,759 pro rata per annum

During 2nd year: £14,741 pro rata per annum

Following successful completion of the training programme and the two years’ experience the individual will transfer to Agenda for Change Band 3.
