Job Title: Trust Doctor (Junior Tier)

Salary: £37,547 to £53,602 pro rata, per annum
1 Post - Programmed Activities: 5 PA’s
1 Post - Programmed Activities: 10 PA’s

We are looking for an enthusiastic Trust Doctor (Junior Tier) to join our dynamic and forward thinking Children’s Services at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as part of on-going investment into the service.

You will join a busy, friendly and developing Children’s Services treating the children of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

Children’s Services is dedicated to providing the best possible care for the children and young people of Milton Keynes, and as such has recently expanded the Specialty Doctor/Registrar rota to ensure that there is at least 2 registrars covering Children’s Services out of hours. The Service consists of:
• A Paediatric inpatient ward with 14 beds and 8 cubicles. This ward accommodates children on the High Dependency pathway in designated beds
• A Paediatric Day Care Unit
• A Paediatric Day Surgery Unit which has 8 beds
• A Paediatric Assessment Unit which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
• A level 2 Neonatal Unit with 16 cots
In addition to the above, the hospital has a dedicated Paediatric Area within A&E which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is a permanent post and the appointments are to commence as soon as possible.
With a variety of pathology- this role will provide fantastic experience in Paediatrics and Neonates. There are also consultants with special interests in a variety of specialities including diabetes and endocrinology, oncology, respiratory care, sickle cell, HIV and TB, in which the successful candidate can also express an interest. In addition, there may be a requirement to provide Paediatric medical input into other local Trusts.

The role provides:
• Dedicated bleep free weekly teaching time with teaching by external speakers from tertiary centres.
• Weekly case-based discussion teaching sessions.
• IT facilities for on-line learning as well as a Postgraduate Medical Centre and excellent library facilities
• Fortnightly simulation training for Paediatric Resuscitation, communication and team work.
• A progressive neonatal unit with ample opportunity to enhance the clinical skills.
• A very close-knit and well supported department with round the clock support from consultants
• A true multi-disciplinary team with the nursing and medical teams working closely together.
• Teaching sessions on the management of the deteriorating child (OPERA) in conjunction with the Anaesthetic and A&E teams
The Paediatric team consists of 8 Consultants (including 2 Neonatologoists), 8 Specialty Doctors (Registrars), 5 Specialty Trainees (ST4+), 3 Trust Doctors (Junior Tier), 5 Specialty Trainees (SHO's), 2 GPVTS Trainees and 1 FY2.

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital. This allows us to attract, train and retain the best doctors and contribute towards the financial stability of the organisation.

This is also an important step towards establishing the trust as a world-class centre for teaching excellence. The first students arrived on wards in May 2015 and by the beginning of 2017 a medical school building will have been constructed, which will also create exciting opportunities in the future for all staff in the fields of clinical research and education.

This exciting new phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities. A teaching and research background would be highly advantageous when applying for this position.
