Locum Consultant Care of the Elderly

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust are seeking dynamic, committed, visionary locum consultant geriatricians to support its Care of the Elderly department while we recruit substantively.

This is an exciting time for Care of the Elderly medicine in Warwick. We are a forward thinking specialty and Trust who have been recognized nationally (HSJ; King’s Fund; and others) for our work on elderly care pathways and integrated working and are constantly seeking innovative ways to improve the patient experience. Recent developments include the implementation of Discharge to Assess pathways; increased role of Medical Nurse Practitioners to support the medical workforce; innovative junior medical posts; integration of acute and community services; and creation of a dedicated Frailty Unity at the front-end.

Care of the Elderly encompasses a wide range of services including general geriatrics; stroke (including TIA and dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit); Parkinson’s Disease; orthogeriatrics; and frailty so, whatever your sub-specialty interest, we are sure that you will find opportunities to develop your career at SWFT. We also have close links with Warwick Medical School with many of our consultants undertaking teaching/research.

Care of the Elderly Consultants

Care of the Elderly at SWFT has received substantial investment into our medical staffing at all levels from Trust Board.

You will join a team of 5 other geriatricians providing in-patient and out-patient services to our local population and be supported by a mixture of deanery and Trust junior doctors, Medical Nurse Practitioners, nurse specialists, and committed ward staff. You will have responsibility for a dedicated bed base supported by a committed MDT and the opportunity to lead on developments in your areas.
