Applications are invited for trust ST3+ posts in Anaesthetics at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. This is an existing full-time post with a 1A (50%) band supplement.

The successful applicants will provide, along with the existing anaesthetic team, an effective specialist service in anaesthesia for the people of Mid Essex. The post-holder will be expected to participate in the departments 1:8 on call rota.

Day to day duties include:

  • Providing a supervised (direct and indirect) anaesthetic service
  • Responsibility for continuity of care for patients on the burns ITU
  • Clerking and examining of all admissions when on duty
  • Attending ward rounds
  • Ensuring that patients are issued with a discharge note on discharge from the ITU
  • Member of the resuscitation team
  • Ordering tests and obtaining results of these

The Department of Anaesthetics services a population of approximately 350,000 and is staffed by 52 consultants, 11 Specialty Doctors and 16 Fellows and Trust doctors providing cover for a total of 23 theatres. There is a strong emphasis on teaching and training with 25 trainees in the department on recognised training rotations.

The department employs a number of fellows in pain medicine, regional anaesthesia and pre-operative care. There is an actively pre-operative assessment unit, which sees all major surgical cases and provides CPEX testing.
