The Priory Hospital Middleton St George is located close to Darlington, County Durham and provides individualised treatment and care for people with mental health needs of adult working age and who present with complex and challenging behaviours, in a safe and supportive environment. Our comprehensive integrated services offer complete care pathways allowing service users to transfer effortlessly between the most appropriate care, meeting individual needs enabling recovery and re-engagement within the community and maximising life opportunities.

Our multi-disciplinary teams work collaboratively with up to 73 male and female service users and their commissioners, across 5 wards with a step-down community house in nearby Darlington. We deliver acute and detoxification services, and a recovery and rehabilitation environment which includes a specialist female Personality Disorder service. Our focus is on the delivery of excellent care, empowering service users to progress towards the least restrictive setting and towards independence.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantially motivated, experienced and skilled Ward Manager to work for The Priory Hospital Middleton St George reporting directly to the Clinical Services Manager.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills along with a strong drive to develop the dedicated nursing team within the therapeutic milieu. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work within a talented multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for ensuring that the nursing team possesses the skills, knowledge and motivation to offer and deliver the highest quality of care to service users with complex mental health and their families.

The successful candidate must possess excellent clinical, team and communication skills together with vision and enthusiasm to develop the hospital's service model. The successful candidate should be RMN qualified and have a minimum of 2 years’ experience within a related management role. You need to be able to demonstrate the quality and management of service delivery, patient care and the clinical environment with 24 hours responsibility for staffing. The successful applicant will be a forward-thinking manager, who will lead staff by example.

Ensure that MHA and MCA standards are upheld and work to uphold NMC's code of practice whilst ensuring all relevant policies are in place, reviewed and updated as and when necessary (e.g. ward guidelines/patient information) in liaison with multidisciplinary teams. An understanding of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy would be desirable however training will be provided for the successful candidate if necessary. Will provide Clinical Leadership for the nursing team and build relationships with Commissioners whilst ensuring the CQC regulations, outcomes and judgement framework are adhered to at all times. You will participate in pre-admission assessments and the hospital clinical governance agenda and monitor standards of care and take action where standards are not met. Clinical records are well maintained and systems are in place for staff to communicate effectively on clinical issues ensuring awareness of legal implications and ensure all ward management responsibilities are met and all reports are up to date.

It is essential that all staff are inducted thoroughly in all clinical, central and company procedures and are regularly appraised on performance and all development needs are identified whilst also taking responsibility for own personal & professional development through the performance and development reviews and attending all relevant training.
