Student Nurse Blog Year 3 - Week 13

November 27th 2006

27/11/2006

Hi gals ’n’ guys what a great start to the week. The hospital transport arrived late at the pick up point (because traffic in this small city is so awfull!), so I arrived at Uni ten minutes late..........
..................to find out that the morning lecture had been cancelled and the institute were unable to fill it with another lecture (which is what they try to do if a lecture gets cancelled!).

Our small PBL group had a quick talk and decided that we did not need to meet up this afternoon for the PBL session, as we were all happy with what we were meant to be doing. So, although it has been a waste of time coming into Uni today, at least I have got the whole day to work on my PBL!

On another bad note, the bus company have increased their prices yet again, and the price increase starts today. Its rediculous, they don’t even run on time and sometimes a bus just won’t even turn up! Never mind, enough of the moaning.

I will get on with my PBL work. The presentation is on Thursday.
Blog to you all lata. Have a great week! Matt

Well I’ve finished working on my PBL action plan, presentation notes and handouts. All printed off and ready for tomorrow. I am down to be second to give my presentation, so at least I’ll get it out of the way early.

Let you know how it all goes. I will blog to you all either tomorrow or Friday.

Well, the presentations went really well today. I was the second person in our small PBL group to present back. You only have ten minutes to present and five minutes at the end of your presentation to deal with any questions.

When I had rehearsed the presentation it lasted for 8.5 minutes. However, when I came to present back for the assessment, the ten minutes finished and I still had a paragraph left. Never mind, two other people also over-ran, so at least I wasn’t the only one. I don’t think you get too penalised for over-running (as long as it isn’t too much), its mainly the content of the presentation and the way the information is presented that is really assessed. We get the marks on Tuesday, so I will let you know how it goes then.

Anyway, am now off tomorrow and next week, as we have a 2,500 word assignment to write, as a literature review on one of the two subjects we used for the PBL presentations. Obviously its only an abbreviated literature review, as we only have 2,500 words. I am going to chose the subject I presented on today - postoperative assessment tools (Early Warning Scoring Systems). Hope you all have a great weekend. Will blog to you either next week sometime or the week after.

Matt
