Student Nurse Blog Year 3 - Week 30

April 3rd 2007

28/03/2007

Well, this is our last week at uni. I have to admit I didn’t go in yesterday. It was only a morning lecture, the afternoon was for assignment clinic for those who needed it. Instead I did some work at home on my assignments and then attended a lecture at the hospital on the new Mental Capacity Act 2005 which part 1 comes into force on the 1st April 2007 and part 2 comes into force on 1st Oct 2007. It was very interesting!

In the evening I attended an evening teaching session at the local BUPA hospital (where I work on the Bank) about peri-operative care. We talked about post-op care and assessments before having three scenarios to work through. It was a very good session!

Today I am going to work on my assignments. Tomorrow and Friday are our last days at uni, tomorrow is our management module and Friday is the capable practitioner module, but we are only in for the morning on Friday, as we have the afternoon off!

Blog to you all again soon. Matt

Well, despite a serious bout of reduced motivation, I have suddenly found motivation and interest again and finished one of the three assignments we’ve got. They are only short ones anyway, two 1,500 words and one 1,600 word assignments (actually, shorter ones are harder to write, I personally prefer 5,000 and 10,000 assignments!).

Today is the last day of our management module at uni and tomorrow will be our last day at uni ever - except for registration on the 3rd Aug. Hurrar, its almost over! I am really looking forward to theatres for my final placement. I hope that the training sister aproves the proposed training programme I have put forward to her. I am meeting with her on the morning of Tuesday 17th April, the week before I start the placement.

After tomorrow we have three weeks off for directed study and annual leave. I am working some of that time for the local BUPA hospital in Endoscopy, spending Easter week in Somerset running one of my friends fast food businesses, then back up to Worcester to work on my assignments and attending a half day smoking cessation course, as well as do a couple of shifts for the local BUPA hospital on the ward.

If I don’t blog again before the end of the week, I wish you all a great Easter. I will blog again after Easter week. Matt

Well thats the end of university! We finished this morning with a brief 30 minute talk about Postgraduate management courses and part time undergraduate management courses available at the university.

Then we had a quizz on physiology, splitting the group into two and having the two groups as teams.

A lot of people are meeting up in the ’Dive’ (SU) bar for a lunch buffet and a few drinks, others are meeting up in smaller groups and going into town for lunch. We are all meeting up again at University on the 3rd Aug for the morning for registration and to have a few drinks, etc..

I’ll blog to you all again in a few weeks. Have a great Easter all! Matt
