The Trust comprises of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich (QEW) and University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) both of which are awaiting award of ISO accreditation certificates.
We have an opportunity for Band 6 Biomedical Scientists to join our Biochemistry team and play a role in shaping our organisation as we continue to put patient care and service users first. This is a busy laboratory with a very diverse local population, and we are consolidating and repatriating our workload wherever possible, giving our staff opportunities to gain experience in more than just the average DGH repertoire.
The Pathology Directorate have implemented a Hub and Spoke model of operation, with the Main Laboratory and services running at the QEH which will be the base for all staff with the expectation that staff rotate across both sites when required.
Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Clinical Biochemistry Band 6
We are looking for applications from enthusiastic Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered, Band 6 Biomedical Scientists, with a minimum of two years post registration experience in Biochemistry. The applicant must possess a BSc in an appropriate discipline, and have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio.
Within the Blood Sciences Department, Biochemistry staff rotate through Automation, POCT, Manual, Special Proteins and Immunology.
Biochemistry Automated instrumentation has been standardised across both sites and includes Roche Cobas 8000s on both sites (C702 and E602) with Roche pre-and post-analytics (RSA Pro p612 and RSD p512) at QEH and a Beckman Coulter Automate at UHL.
Within the Immunology & Special Proteins Sections, we have a Beckman Coulter Immage, a Binding Site SPA Plus, Sebia Capillarys2 and a Phadia 250.
The Manual section includes two Biorad D100s.
Our Biochemistry POCT team liaise closely with clinical colleagues in ward and acute areas, and have just upgraded our BGAs to Radiometer ABL90 Flex Plus. We also co-ordinate the maintenance and EQA of the Trust's glucose & ketone meters and have just installed Aqure for full IT connectivity within Pathology and to continue our work towards full ISO 22870 compliance for these, and all other POCT devices throughout the Trust. We have recently taken on the community contract for Glucometer EQA with one of our Community Trusts.
Clinisys Winpath LIMS is in operation on both sites.
The Trust uses Cerner iCare as its Electronic Patient Record system, including full Order Comms. In addition, a large proportion of our GP surgeries across the three boroughs we serve use t-Quest for electronic test requesting.
We currently use Q-pulse to support our Quality Management System.
Previous experience with any of the laboratory automation and IT systems would be advantageous.
There is a full AfC 24hr shift system in operation. Candidates would be expected to take a full part in the shift rota and to work across both the QEH and UHL sites as required.
The successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to further their academic career. The post holders will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to CPD.
