We are seeking applications to join a cohesive team of 10 Consultant Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists working in one of the largest acute hospitals in the country. The department is based at the state of the art hospital, Queen Alexandra in Portsmouth.

We are interested in recruiting those with a particular experience in IBD and / or nutrition but we are also keen to encourage general gastroenterologists with a broader field of expertise as we will actively encourage all sub specialty interests.

We’re looking for;

  • Applicants with entry on to the GMC specialist registrar via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
  • Enthusiastic and forward-thinking individuals.

The Department

The gastroenterology and hepatology ward comprises of 35 beds. There is a new, purpose built, Gastroenterology Outpatient Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital with full flexible sigmoidoscopy facilities and separate dedicated areas for Hepatology clinics.

Our catchment population of 650,000 provides a huge amount of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and specialist Endoscopy work – we are well recognised as delivering expert endoscopy with an international reputation. We have a fully comprehensive investigative GI service which includes Capsule Endoscopy and Double Balloon Endoscopy supported by excellent GI radiologists. There is a strong nutritional service which works in collaboration with Southampton to provide on site support for intestinal failure. We work closely with the upper and Lower GI Surgeons to provide fully integrated specialist care and we have a thriving Research team and CNS input.
