Job Description

About Mencap
Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.

Support workers have a massive impact on the lives of the people they support. You can help us to make a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability here and now.
That means listening to them, understanding what they like, and supporting them to make decisions and achieve the things they want to achieve.

Role Description
Support Worker Opportunities - Permanent contracts of 20 and 30 hours and Relief Available

Westley Brook Close is home to 9 people who are active and full of life. They require someone who can understand their needs and support them to achieve their goals. All 9 people have their unique traits and character which makes them special and a joy to work with. People need support with personal care, medication, finances and with daily living skills. They need someone who can provide active support by giving them choices, including them in the decisions and promoting their independence.

People love a variety of activities including walks, Bowling, Theatre Trips, Line Dancing, Flower arranging and going out for a curry. The people we support require someone who is active, creative and enthusiastic and can provide dynamic and creative ways to engage and involve people with in their home and out in the community. All of the above play a significant part in their life. We have a house car which can be used but driving is not essential.

We proactively seek involvement from family members. Being social and doing things that are of interest is something they truly value. However, for some crowded social settings are not fun and that is something that some of the people we support find difficult to manage. People are vulnerable in the community and in their own home and require all staff to be vigilant when it comes to their safety and well-being.
Indoor activities include life skills, cooking, horticulture, art sessions and indoor entertainment. We need someone who is able to connect with people while adding new and meaningful activities.

If you would like to help support these outgoing and sociable people, who have a wonderfully full and active life, please apply and tell us why you would be a fantastic addition to the team. We include the people that you will support during all of our selection process and we take a person centred approach to recruitment. You will need to be adaptable due to the complex needs of the service and the people we support.
You will need to be committed and able to work Flexibly including working Early shifts , Late Shifts weekends and Bank Holidays.

* An enhanced DBS will be required for each successful candidate ( Paid for by Mencap, T&Cs apply)

Please see additional information for more details on the people we support in the service
